About Me

I am a mother, a writer, an avid reader and a lover of all things absurd.  A native of Santa Cruz, California, now living in the Los Angeles area, I was a lawyer for several years before leaving the practice of law to be a full time homemaker.  A few years ago, I stumbled upon the career I was meant to have: writing.  This discovery coincided with the loss of hearing in my right ear.  Not only did that help getting the kids to sleep through the night, it made it a lot easier to tune into the characters in my head, the ones who insisted they had stories to tell.

Writers Block: When your imaginary friends stop talking to you.

Yep, that about sums it up.

Once I realized writing was my true path, I set about learning the craft.  I enrolled in classes through UCLA Extension Writers’ Program, and hold a Certificate in Creative Writing from the UCLA Writers’ Program.  Every writer needs a regular writing group. I am grateful to belong to two writing groups whose members challenge and support me, and never stop encouraging me to make my stories as good as they can be. I am a great lover of SCBWI retreats, Highlights Foundation workshops, and classes at Idyllwild Arts Summer Program. To see what I’m working on at the moment, click on the “Works in Progress” tab above.

My most recent venture is Write Together, A Storytelling Community. Write Together offers creative writing classes for teens and tweens. To find out more about Write Together and check for class availability, please visit http://writetogether.today.

When I’m not writing, I can be found volunteering at my kids’ schools, coaching their Odyssey of the Mind teams, helping out in the school’s Makerspace classroom, or checking out the latest offerings at Pages, our local bookstore.  On occasion I also am tasked with taking care of our persnickety cat, Ferris, and two adorably furry chinchillas, Basil and Elvis.
